Wywiad:
Recently, Soccer Gaming caught up with Pro Evolution Soccer’s brand new European Community Leader, Adam Bhatti. Formerly involved in one of the worlds largest PES Fan Sites, and a genuine supporter of the franchise, it is a wise move on Konami’s part to bring in someone who actually loves the game. With no official news on Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 currently available, Adam was understandably limited in the information he could give, however spoke openly about certain aspects of Konami’s future plans, as well as discussing some of his own personal preferences when it comes to PES.
-Firstly, Adam, congratulations on your new role Konami’s PES European Community Manager! Could you give the Soccer Gaming visitors a little insight into what the role entails?
Thanks! Primarily my role is to look after the vast array of community sites around Europe, and make sure we’re engaging fans and responding to questions. So, for example, I would make sure sites like Soccer Gaming have all the information they need on PES, allows communities to be more well informed and grow.
On the flip side, I’m very committed in making sure the PES team are creating new ways of interacting with the fans, which I’m hoping you’ll get to see this year in a big way.
-Some of our community will be familiar with your previous work on Winning Eleven Next Generation Blog (WENB). How did the progression from being involved with a PES Fan site to being a member of the Konami team come about?
In many ways it was natural progression. As you say most know me from WENB. In that particular role I saw that the network had established a close relationship with Konami, and I used that to help other community sites around the world. It’s what makes the PES community so unique, there’s togetherness between all the sites, where we all pulled together.
this relationship already built with everyone, including yourself, certainly helped the progression and made the role an extension of what I’d been doing already.
-As a Pro Evolution Soccer player yourself, what have you found to be the biggest issues / areas for development required for Pro Evolution Soccer 2014?
Well I can’t talk specifically about PES 2014 and it’s a subject that is difficult to answer now, mainly because the past is the past. As everyone has seen from the Edge article, we’re using a brand new engine which creates a brand new foundation. To talk about biggest issues is irrelevant, we’re looking forward with past problems behind us, and a dedication to create something new – a game-changer
-The new Fox Engine is set to completely redefine the way PES looks and feels. What information can you give to our community on the new system?
The new engine is built from Fox Engine, not using it entirely. It has been detailed extensively in Edge magazine too, so I’m hopeful users will be able get more details from the magazine.
-Online has always been a sticking point for gamers when it comes to PES. From your own personal experience, how have you found this aspect of the game? Is it an area that will continue to be developed in PES 2014?
Again, I can’t talk about PES 2014 specifically, but I can say 100% it’s an area we will continue to develop and become even better. It’s about the experience people have when playing online, as it’s not so much about poor connections, which we’ve improved massively on. It’s more about playing against an opponent on your terms, finding players with similar mentality and control set-ups.
We need to make sure our fans have a satisfying experience when playing online, and we’re dedicated to making that happen.
-Pro Evolution Soccer has had some great game modes over the years (Random Select Mode, Master League, MLO, etc.) Which mode was / is your personal favorite and why?
It has to be Master League. It’s a mode I’ve sucked many hours into each year, creating teams from scratch and building world beaters. Selling/buying players, watching the young player grow, seeing a favorite get old and retire etc, it’s a very involving mode and keeps you hooked even when you’re away from the console.
-As a PES gamer myself, I know each year there is a player or two you can always rely on for games against friends or to perform in crucial Master League matches! Who has been your ‘best’ PES virtual player over the franchise?
This will probably come across a bit strange, but back in the later PS2 games the player I went for was Gilardino. He had a high stability stat in shooting, which meant he would more often than not hit the target even when under severe pressure!
In the more recent games, I go for a goalkeeper first. As a Milan fan, when starting ML there is a good mix of youth and older players, but the keeper situation isn’t great in that aspect! Viviano is always my first target, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina. Already well developed, but still grows with games, definitely a player that has saved me many times!
-In a dream world, which addition would you love to see in PES that has never been included? (yet) (My personal one is 5 v 5 / 7 v 7 mini soccer matches)
That’s a good one. I’m all about simulating the real sport, so it would have to something where you could create an experience which encapsulated running a club from the inside out, while having all the expected features you get in a PES game. Add in living their life outside a match, and you start to see how crazy my mind can get!
-Finally, is there any piece of information that you could provide to Soccer Gaming as a ‘complete exclusive’ regarding Pro Evolution Soccer 2014?
If only it was that easy! I can assure you I’d love to, but it’s a bit too early for that right now. We’re working really hard behind the scenes to make sure when we officially announce the game we do it justice, I look forward to seeing what Soccer Gaming and its fans think of it!
-We would like to thank Adam for his time, and will hopefully speak again in the lead up to Pro Evolution Soccer 2014. If you would like to follow Adam on Twitter, his account is @Adam_Bhatti
